The cold hard truth about America
The assembly and speeches in Selma made for a chilling effect in our lifetime because as it was 50 years ago, African Americans are still suffering the same despicable treatment as they did during that infamous march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge,
Today, African Americans are still fighting for the rights of all American's to vote, better wages, a decent education. Although they have been able to sit at the counter, their lives are being diminished by law enforcement, just like those who marched across that racist bigot's bridge in 1965.
The Department of Justice's investigation of the police force and politicians in Ferguson, MO has uncovered a racist lawlessness that can only be heightened by the despicable nature of those who took part. Furthermore, it has opened a "whole 'nuther can of worms" as it relates to race relations all across this country.
While politicians are running on platforms of keeping taxes low and putting more money in the pockets of all Americans, the police force in Ferguson was using their position as law enforcement
to extract money from African Americans so that the city could balance its budget. In essence, the African Americans in Ferguson were paying a disproportionate amount of revenue to the city in a way that can only be described as extortion.
The cold, hard truth about Darren Wilson's murder of Michael Brown is that while the DOJ did not press charges against the officer, he demonstrated a total disregard for the young Black man's life which only highlights the fact that this hatred and fear of Black men permeates throughout law enforcement and frankly, our entire society.
Sidebar: Mad Man is not going to succumb to the politically correct and as some would say, legal adage that unless a person is found guilty, one cannot use the world murder. It is murder if you make a conscious effort to shoot an unarmed individual while as a police officer when you can call for backup, use a billy club, and a taser. It was easy for Darren Wilson to kill Michael Brown because he held an inherit dislike for the young man's existence.
Black women deserve all of the credit in the world because they have always been the cornerstone of the African American community however, there is a reason that they are the one's that are advancing up the corporate ladder in high paying jobs and careers. It started during slavery when they were moved to the "big house", then they could not receive welfare benefits unless there was no man in the house which we all know destroys the fabric of every family unit.
Let's just cut to the case. There are many white men who fear and loathe Black men and unfortunately due to racism and bigotry, the feelings are reciprocated. The suppression of the existence of Black men starts at an early age by America's justice system and it goes down hill from there. As far as some white men are concerned, the world would be a better place if Black men didn't exist. And as the latest epidemic of murders of Black men confirm, the white policemen in America are doing the best that they can to achieve that goal.
Maybe the march across the bridge will reopen the discussion about race like it did years ago which prompted Lyndon Johnson to use the phrase "we shall overcome" while addressing the nation. But, unless all Americans begin an honest discussion of race relations in this country, life for African American men will continue to flow down the bloody trail of death by the hands of white policemen.
