As Mad Man was discussing the shooting of Walter Scott, a 50 year resident of North Charleston, South Carolina, by Officer Michael Slager, after being stopped for a tail light infraction, all that Mad Man could answer was that he was "speechless".
How does one explain or rationalize the death of a man for no reason by a policeman whose job is to "serve and protect". Isn't that their motto? Yet here we are again with another malicious and very unnecessary murder of an African American man. How dare any human on the face of the earth try to justify what this dirty cop did to this Coast Guard veteran.
First of all, anytime a cop shoots an unarmed individual of any race, creed, or color there should be a serious investigation and unless that cop can prove a physical altercation, he should be punished. African Americans will never, ever know just how many African American men and women have been needlessly killed by white cops and the statistics are alarming.
In March of this year, police in the United States killed 111 individuals. Since 1990, policemen in the United Kingdom have only killed 52. Yes, what has happened in America is that we have given law enforcement the right to commit murder, even if that person is unarmed. In addition, who knows how many individuals have been killed by means other than a firearm.
What was so dishearteningly terrible about the shooting of Mr. Scott is that the Officer, Mr. Slager appeared so calm, cool, and collected as if he were shooting at a wounded animal. As Mr. Scott lay dying on the ground, Mr. Slager casually approached him and applied handcuffs. Just as you would tie an animal before hanging it up to "bleed it out".
It is Mad Man's unsolicited opinion that after Officer Slager had trotted back to pick up his Taser from the area where Mr. Scott had broken free and ran, and laid it near Mr. Scott's dying body, another officer appeared and said something that prompted Mr. Slager to pick up the Taser. We all know that the comment by the approaching officer was, 'hey man, I saw you pick up that Taser and lay it next to the body. I can't let you get away with that". It also appears that the approaching officer was African American.
There was a warrant out for Mr. Scott, the father of four, for lapsed child support payments, which makes the cause of this murder even more saddening and unwarranted. And again, the only recourse that African Americans feel that they have is to march, while the majority of Americans remain silent. It would be nice to hear outrage from someone other than the marchers and the reporters on the 6 o'clock news.
The young man who filmed the murder, Mr. Feidin Santana, of the Dominican Republic was on his way to work at a local restaurant finally came forward after he realized that the police department was attempting to portray Officer Slager as innocent of any wrong doing. Furthermore, after viewing the tape, Mr. Slager's attorney, Mr. David Aylor, who had proclaimed "that Mr. Slager had followed all of the procedures and policies in this shooting", resigned.
How many African American men are going to be needlessly murdered before the people of America can no longer stomach this type of behavior from those who are here to serve and protect them. These incidents are just another divide between Black people and white people because the Black people want justice and the majority of this country's white community remains silent.
Until incidents like this are addressed by the people of this country.........."We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America", will continue to be just a farce.
