Sunday - June 7th
We arose this morning to prepare for today's adventure to the Capital Jazz Festival. Yesterday was an exciting day even though the excitement wasn't caused by the music but by the meeting and greeting of old friends and making new ones. I guess that this is what these large outdoor concerts is all about. People hanging out, eating and drinking and in Mad Man's case, taking lots of pictures. Compared to what's been happening in Baltimore, the local residents welcomed this event.
The weekend started on Friday night with the "pop-up" party at Diane's. As I had mentioned, my aunt Margaret who was hospitalized on Thursday and in critical condition was taken off life support at 3pm on Friday. At 7pm as the pop-up was getting started, Mad Man received a call from his brother stating that "Aunt Margaret was gone." She was 82 years old and I guess that it was time.
We plan on leaving the Jazz Festival a little early today to attend a fish fry that will be hosted by more friends of ours from college and begin to wind down our trip. It has been wonderful to see old friends and it's always fun but to be honest, Mad Man could have done without the jazz Festival. As far as he's concerned, it was a waste of time and money.
The pop-up was enough time spent with friends and it would have been more fun doing what Kathy and Mad Man love to do and that is to explore the area. We never got a chance to visit the monuments in Washington. As I mentioned earlier, we did visit the estate/museum of George Washington in Virginia and it was a blast.
Although we have visited the monuments on numerous occasions, it was Mad Man's intention to photograph them all to share in one of his Smilebox productions. Mad Man loves to entertain but he also loves to educate. What can I say, I have been living with a teacher all of my adult life.
