It is a good Friday in Charleston, South Carolina and a great Friday in America now that the decision has been made to remove the Confederate Flag from the state capital.
Now, this symbol of hate, racism, and bigotry can be placed in a museum to be viewed as one of the things that was part of America's ugly past. The description of this flag and what it stood for should not be sanitized because there is a movement by the "White Right" to glorify their past while pretending that their love for America has always been solely patriotic.
Isn't it interesting that in some circles the word "patriot" denotes some of the most evil deeds done by man? Dylaan Roof claimed to be a patriot. Edwin Pettus claimed to be a patriot and all of the KKK claimed to be patriots.
Let's just hope that the decision in South Carolina does not cause the crazed individuals who believe that they are losing their country to people of color who actually built this country, to burn more churches or kill more people.
It is unfortunate that these people exist but unfortunately there is really no law against one being ignorant, a bigot, and a racist. But it is Mad Man's opinion that The United States of America would be a much better place if all of these types of people would be handled just like the confederate flag, taken down and place in a museum.
