I know that everyone who reads Mad Man are starting to cringe when you read the title of this observation as well as be afraid of the "push back" and onslaught of attacks that might come as a result. But in Mad Man's defense, he must speak his mind when he observes what he believes is an overstepping of boundaries whether it be by the people, the government, or religious organizations.
I chose the title of this observation because I like to keep things simple and easy to read. In his previous life, Mad Man was a technical writer and hasn't yet acquired the colorful language of a true writer of prose. Mad Man is working on that, but until then, the following are his very simple observations on religion.
This observation does not absolve the racist and bigoted criminals for participating in the burning of churches which should be classified as acts of terrorism and hate crimes.
The Good
The belief in a higher being is a great way to live one's life. Whether you believe he or she exists is irrelevant because you can also be a spiritual human being without believing in any GOD. I believe that they call these people "Agnostics". But what we all must agree on is the fact that religion is our moral compass by which we try to live our lives. The words in the bible tells us, and rightfully so, that "we should all love each other as we love ourselves."
Without this moral compass, the world would be in worse shape than it is in now and it is actually scary to see these latest developments in America and around the world. So far the acts of terror in the United States hasn't reached the stage of other terrorist acts on behalf of religion that we see it in other parts of the world.
What Mad Man does see is the beginning of a race war unless those that govern this country step up and stop pretending that the burning of churches is the actions of a few and dig deeper into the depths of the racist organizations that are allowed to exist and create people like Dylaan Roof.
The Bad
It is becoming more and more evident that those staunchly religious people in America are forcing their way into the realm of America's political system in an attempt to force their belief's on others. It is actually okay to interpret the bible any way that one wishes but one cannot force others to live by those interpretations.
We see it happening everyday and America is becoming less the land of the free but the land of the religiously oppressed. Those staunchly religious sects in this country cannot and should not impose their religious beliefs on anyone who chooses not to adhere to their dogmatic existence, which quite frankly, are a minority in this country.
The Ugly
As America's politicians continue to cater to the most extreme factions of the religious community, we find ourselves being denied human rights. The two most individual human rights that are exploited and denied by religious groups and their political sycophants, are abortion and gay marriage.
The abortion battle is an old one and little by little the politicians are caving in to the religious segment of our society by passing more and more ridiculous laws like demanding that doctors at women's health (abortion clinics), have admitting privileges to a hospital Unfortunately, many hospitals will not grant admitting privileges to abortion doctors.
They are also closing abortion clinics across the states as in Texas and Alabama where in some cases a woman seeking an abortion may have to travel 500 miles. Mad Man cannot believe the hypocrisy of all of this, especially in the Republican party, which is the Religious Rights' sycophant, because this party is against abortion, but continues to cut funding aid to those unwed and impoverished mothers who have been denied an abortion.
It gets even more ridiculous and ugly because now that the Supreme Court of the land has mandated that the LBGT community has the right to marry each other, the state of Texas again has crawled like wounded pigs to the forefront of the religious suppression movement to deny the right of this group because of what else, religious reasons.
Summary Observation
Religion cannot and should not be used to govern an entire nation but the trend in America is to do so without the ISIS type approach.
Without the murder and warfare, the suppression of the rights of American by the religious zealots in this country is getting way out of control and the constitution of the United States even mandates that there should be a separation of church and state.
America's politicians are controlled by big money and religion which leaves very little room for those members of society who just want to live their lives while trying to be free to be whom they want to be. They live, the hurt, and they love and many of them without the aid of bible study, tend to exist as very worthwhile contributors to our society. And yet those who profess to be GOD's children and disciples who are the followers of his word, fail or refuse to see the hypocrisy of their ways.
