For those of you who don't follow baseball, Barry Bonds, the son of ex-major league great Bobby Bonds and the godson of one of the greatest to ever play the game, Willie Mays, just had his very unjust and prejudicial conviction of "obstructing Justice" overturned.
During the steroid era of baseball, (it has now evolved into the use of "HGH" or Human Growth Hormones") there was an all out pursuit of steroid users by the baseball sportswriters who are ridiculously trying to dictate how the game should look and be played.
The real truth is this. Just like any other sport where the players are paid millions of dollars, the owners and the media need to keep these players playing. There are 162 baseball games played each year in approximately 200 days and this does not include playoffs and World Series. Players get injured and steroids reduces the amount of time that it takes for a player to recover and get back on the field. This is especially true for pitchers.
The average fan does not care who or why any player uses steroids. Now the powers that be have to make a decision. Do they make the parks smaller because 5'10" tall white baseball players can no longer hit homeruns or allow them to use any controlled PED. By the way, African Americans don't play baseball anymore.
Sidebar: There are Blacks playing baseball. They just happen to be Latin American, Cuban, or from the Dominican Republic. The owners in baseball have figured out the fact that they could get that Black athleticism much cheaper by not drafting African Americans or trying re-interest them in baseball.. By the way, very few African Americans play baseball today. The corporation that is Major League Baseball even built an baseball training facility in the Dominican Republic so that they could start mining and scouting that cheap talent at an early age.
In an another indication of our government's wasteful spending , the Barry Bonds investigation and trial cost taxpayers $ 55 million dollars. Barry's obstruction of justice conviction was based on the following comment he made while being cross examined by the prosecutor. When asked if he ever used the "steroid cream", Mr. Bonds simply stated "that he did not ask his trainer what he was rubbing onto his skin."
Barry's personal trainer, Greg Anderson, refused to testify in the case and served time in prison which infuriated the prosecution as well as the media. And herein lies the reason for this witch hunt. Barry Bonds comes from baseball royalty and he refused to allow the media to make him admit how fortunate he was to be playing "America's greatest pastime". Barry's belligerent response to the asinine requests by writers has always been, "I am a middle class brother who doesn't have to apologize for being here."
Barry has gone as far as stating, "yessa masser I's so glad dat y'all
let me play dis here game", was not something that the media or anyone for that matter will ever hear him say.
All of the other players, Mark McGuire, who is now the Dodgers batting coach, Roger Clemens, Sammy Sosa, and Manny Ramirez who were indicted were found guilty, cried, and begged for forgiveness, Barry didn't and due to the media's prejudice against him, he was ridiculed in the press with many opinions and personal attacks on his character by sportswriters and after spending all of this money, they got nothing.
None of these guys served any time in prison and the only casualty in this ridiculous charade called American justice was Victor Conte, the former "Tower of Power" trumpet player who founded the steroid producing lab in Northern California called "BALCO".
Sidebar: When baseball was trying to attract fans after a season where the players went on strike, Mark McGuire, Sammy, and Barry Bonds staged one f the greatest homerun hitting contests ever and everybody knew that they were using steroids or as the media calls them, "Performance Enhancing Drugs" or PED's.
Sure Barry used steroids, but due to his probable arrogance and the way that the media treated him, he said "buck it" and simply stated that he did not know what he was rubbing into his skin.
This is just another example where an African American man who has reached the top of his game was targeted by the media just because he wouldn't kiss their asses and tell them how happy he was that they allowed him to play the game of baseball.
And again, the old white men in power, this time the "Baseball Writers Association of America" decided that a man did not acquiesce to their demands and labeled him a malcontent.
Even more absurd, these very same men are praising the new commissioner of baseball for allowing Pete Rose to participate in this years all-star game. Pete Rose was banned from baseball for betting on the Cincinnati Reds while he was their manager by calling his bookie from the dugout, during games!
While these rich and powerful old men are talking about cutting budgets and reducing spending, this wasted $ 55 million dollars could have been spent on education, helping the homeless, mentally ill, veterans and a myriad of more important things than trying to embarrass Barry Bonds just to prove a point.
