The Black Pawns

It is unconsciously amazing that the Corporate theft in Haiti is happening again to more Black people. The corporations are using the Haitian people as pawns in their scheme of extracting huge sums of money from the United States and other governments.

It has been reported that of the $ 10 billion dollars in aid that has been spent in Haiti in relief for the earthquake, of five years ago,  the Haitian people actually receive less than a penny for every dollar that is supposedly spent on aid.

Furthermore, these people still don't have any clean drinking water!
$ 10 billion dollars and these people still don't have clean drinking water or indoor plumbing? To make this thievery more heartlessly evil is that after promising to build housing for the people of Haiti, not one house has been erected. Contractors received money to build models, but the models didn't meet code approval for earthquakes or hurricanes.

Sidebar: As economists evaluate the Haitian relief funding, it has been determined that all of the companies that are supplying "aid" to Haiti take 25% of every dollar before doing anything.  There are almost no nonprofit companies that supply aid to Haiti.

But, the kind and generous corporations have built soccer fields and playgrounds while the people live in huts made of plastic. Of course there was a cholera epidemic. The largest in history that has resulted from the primitive living conditions and the disease was brought to Haiti by aid workers who dumped their waste in public spaces.

The 7.0 earthquake of January 2010 killed 16,000 Haitians and left 2 million of them homeless. Today there are still 100 thousand of these people still without even a plastic hut to call home. There was aid given to build 15,000 homes but none were ever built for the people of Haiti. Instead USAID spent $ 70 million dollars to build homes with pools for staff workers.

In the most disrespectful and puzzling example of disregard for the people of Haiti, The International Olympic Committee spent $ 18 million dollars to build a soccer facility. In Caracol, where the soccer stadium was built, Mayor Cesaire Lamour stated that there was a total of $ 300 million dollars spent in his city without any of it going to build housing for his citizens.

Chemanics, the government contractor who received all of the aid money to build in Haiti has sent lobbyist to Washington, DC to insure that no aid will ever come to the country, without being dispersed by them and other for profit companies.. In Caracol, Chemanics built an overpriced police station and an industrial park.

This industrial park is operated and used by a South Korean garment company that uses cheap labor, tax exemptions, and duty free shipping to the United States. None of the Haitian employees at this plant were affected by the earthquake. As a matter of fact, neither was the city of Caracol.

The $ 10 billion dollars in aid has become a boon for private companies and as one executive puts it, "Haiti has become a gold mine."

The Haitian people still live in squalor with no relief in sight and Bill Clinton, George Bush, and Barrack Obama should all be blamed for this abysmal example of corporate greed and corruption. But, what can Black people expect. Whenever there is an episode that involves a race of people being screwed, more than likely they will be Black.
